Privacy policy

By using this website (the “Site”) you agree to the collection and use of your personal data as described here. It explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have over it.

What we collect

• The Language & Exposure Check-up: your answers stay in your browser and your result is shown on screen. Nothing is saved unless you ask us to email your result. If you do, we keep your email address, first name (optional), your scores, your result band and the date.
• Episode alerts: your email address, when you ask to be emailed about new episodes.
• Contact form: your name, email address, organization (optional) and message. Only what you type into the form.
• Bookings: sessions are booked through Calendly, which collects the details you enter there. If you took the Check-up in the same browser, we pre-fill your name, email and score for you.
• Technical data: page-view and usage analytics. Vercel Analytics is anonymized and uses no cookies. Google Analytics sets cookies only if you choose “Accept” in the cookie notice; otherwise it records anonymous, cookieless counts. When you submit a form, an automated spam check looks at technical signals from your browser to block bots. It is not used for tracking.

Cookies

We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. With your permission, Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how the Site is used; you can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer. The Site also stores a few small preferences in your browser, such as your light or dark theme and your cookie choice. Embedded YouTube players load in privacy-enhanced mode and only set cookies if you play a video. Podcast audio is streamed from the show’s host, which counts plays. The booking calendar is provided by Calendly and sets its own cookies when you use it.

How we use it

• To email you the Check-up result you asked for, followed by two short follow-up emails from Shane.
• To email you new episodes, if you asked for them.
• To reply to your message and, if you book a session, to deliver it.
• To understand which pages are useful, in aggregate.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.

Where it goes

Email addresses, names and Check-up scores are kept with our email provider (Kit) so we can send the emails you asked for. Result emails and contact messages are delivered by our sending provider (Resend). Bookings are handled by Calendly. Usage analytics go to Vercel and, if you accept, Google Analytics. The Site is hosted by Vercel. We do not sell or rent personal data.

How long we keep it

Email subscriptions and Check-up scores are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Messages are kept for as long as needed to respond and, where a session follows, for our business records. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.

Your rights

• Access a copy of your personal data.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Ask us to delete your data, subject to legal or contractual limits.
• Object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent for marketing at any time.
• Receive your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, use the contact page or reply to any email from us. We respond within the legally required timeframe. If you believe your data has been mishandled you may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

This Site links to other websites, including podcast platforms, YouTube, Calendly, shanelukas.com and A Great Idea. Their privacy practices are their own; review their policies before sharing personal data with them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the Site changes. The date at the top tells you when it was last reviewed.
